Six Mile Canyon: Virginia City, NV

Ride Report
Today's route was a trip down to Carson City followed by two Six Mile Canyon loops. The last part of Six Mile Canyon is a difficult stretch, and it was made more difficult today by a nice headwind. Aside from the wind it was a beautiful day out there. There was no February depression today, and March is just around the corner.

Today was an out-and-back down 395 and 88. It's the usual route to Woodfords, CA, home of great climbing. Unfortunately, I wasn't going all the way to Woodfords today and I wasn't doing any climbing. The good news? I'll definitely be back later this year because I'll be doing the Alta Alpina Challenge on June 29th. If all goes well I hope to do some training rides in the area before then.

Ride Report
This was my 2nd century in as many days. Today was a relatively boring route. I did two laps around Washoe Lake and threw in some extra miles to Holcomb Ln and Lakeside Dr towards the end. I have to be honest- this was one of those days when I was out there doing nothing other than chasing the streak. Those weren't exactly quality miles today.

February is always that kind of month for me. I'm tired of winter. I see the pros racing in Australia, Qatar, Oman, etc. and I would love to just pack up the bike and go experience summer in Australia for a month. But hey, things could be worse. I've already cheated 3 times by driving to warmer locations. Besides that, there are a lot of people out there living in colder places than Reno.

Ride Report
I took a day trip to Nevada City for a little change of scenery and some extra warmth. I hadn't been to Nevada City since 2011 for Stage 2 of the Tour of California. That was a bittersweet day for me because it was the day after the stage around Lake Tahoe was cancelled. I was excited to see the race, but still disappointed about the day before. (You may remember that Stage 1 was cancelled at the last minute. I had the perfect spot near Emerald Bay and was upset that I wasn't going to see the pros ride on stretches of road that I've ridden so often. Here is the CyclingNews article from that day.)

Today there was some kind of Mardi Gras parade going on in Nevada City, which altered my route a bit but  provided a little extra entertainment value when I was passing through downtown Nevada City. Here is the route, which I found using a simple RWGPS search. It ended up being the perfect route for this time of year. It had a decent amount of climbing and the weather wasn't too cold since the highest point of the day was under 3,000 feet. I should go back later this summer and hit some of the bigger climbs in the area.
